Weston Bend State Park

Weston Bend State Park is a fantastic state park in the region. Between the hiking trails, paved biking trails, historical tobacco barns, and camping there is plenty to do. There is a handicap accessible overlook with expansive views of the Missouri River.

If you’re looking for a spot to admire the changing leaves in autumn, Weston Bend State Park is one of the best places to see fall foliage in the Kansas City metro area. I personally love hiking the 2.4-mile West Ridge trail late October each year. This is one of my favorite things to do in Weston. Weston Bend State Park is also one of my top 10 places to camp near Kansas City.

If you like cute, local shops then you will love Weston’s Historic Downtown. There are shops filled with antiques, pottery, boutiques, and more. Many of Weston’s businesses are right in the heart of downtown. There is also a park with a playground and basketball court. The main stretch of the downtown is only a couple blocks long, but it is filled with tons of shopping options.

At Jeff’s Architectural Salvage, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by a captivating assortment of architectural treasures. From reclaimed doors and windows to salvaged hardware and fixtures, every corner is brimming with character and nostalgia.

They offer guided tours of their farm with a cheese tasting at the end, as well as farm-to-table dining events. You can also drop into their shop any time and buy some fresh cheese or subscribe to their cheese of the season subscription.

Grab a drink

If you are looking for things to do in Weston, Missouri for a girl’s trip or romantic getaway there are several places to grab a drink, whether you’re in the mood for craft beer, local wines, or handcrafted cocktails.

The most unique (and my personal favorite) place to grab a drink in Weston, Missouri is O’Malley’s 1842 Pub. This pub will surprise you as you descend lower and lower underground. It was used to hide alcohol during prohibition and now it makes for an interesting and fun place to grab a drink. There is often live Irish music on weekends. The owners of O’Malley’s also own Weston Brewing Company, so be sure to try one of their local brews on tap.

If you’re in the mood for wine, look to see if Weston Wine Company is hosting any of their fun events. From murder mysteries to Harry Potter trivia, there are events for everyone. Even if there isn’t an event, you can pop in for a drink and enjoy the vibe. Or if a family-owned business is more your style, stop by Pirtle Winery for a wine tasting experience and sample a variety of reds, whites, and rosés, then relax in the outdoor wine garden with a glass of your favorite wine.

History buffs and whiskey connoisseurs alike will appreciate a visit to the Holladay Distillery. Founded in 1856, this historic distillery offers guided tours that provide insight into the art of whiskey-making and the distillery’s fascinating past. After the tour, head to the tasting room to sample a selection of premium bourbons and whiskeys.

If you like speakeasies, then you will love Whiskey Snug. This whiskey tasting room fully stocked with the best whiskeys and is discreetly tucked away behind the Irish retail store Celtic Ranch. You can get a whiskey flight, Irish beer, or mixed drink–whichever suits your fancy. They have one of the most extensive whiskey and gin collections in the Midwest.

Grab a bite

You can’t consider your visit to Weston complete until you have tasted some of their local flavors. The Tin Kitchen is a great stop if your family is in the mood for burgers and salads. My kids loved the food and I loved that they had an array of gluten free options, including a gluten free fryer.

America Bowman Restaurant is owned by the same owners as O’Malley’s Pub and it is next door. This restaurant serves Irish food and pub food, like bangers and mash, fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and mozzarella sticks. There is outdoor and indoor seating.

Or if pizza is more your thing, then I recommend 640 Pizza and Pints. As the name suggests, they have pizza and beer as well as sandwiches, wings, and other pub food.

If you’re looking for upscale dining, Cafe Avalon has delicious cuisine with indoor and outdoor dining options. They have great salads, pizzas, burgers, steaks, and entrees like wild boar loin and herb crusted salmon.
